Another great hike by the Monday morning NAIS mums!

The Monday Morning Mums (dad's also welcome!) hiked Sir Cecil's Ride yesterday (2 Feb), a beautiful and largely flat hike that skirts around Mount Butler from Quarry Bay to Happy Valley.

Jane Candlish, the hike leader, has another hike planned for next Monday (9 Feb), starting at 8.30am, and all NAIS parents are welcome.

Email me (rebecca.merrett@nais.hk) or Jane (janecandlish@hotmail.co,uk) for more details.

Regular Monday morning hike - from Mount Parker Road/Quarry Bay MTR

Hi everyone

Hope you are all having a great day.

My daughter, Lydia, is in Year 1 ( class 1D) at NAIS

I'm just following up on Rebecca's group hiking mail. I do a lot of hiking ( or walking!) in the area around us - The Hong Kong Trail stages 5-8, Wilson 1-2 and the many trails leading off and around them are all completely accessible from here. They also all have convenient get- off points so you never feel out of your depth! I am keen to hike more in the week - and also at weekends with the kids... it is so beautiful out there at the moment!

Shigemi Standing ( mother of Emma - Yr 4) and I have been meeting on Monday mornings to hike and would love anyone else who fancies it to join us. We meet at the bottom of Mount Parker Road right near Quarry Bay MTR ( Kings Rd exit)

Please let me know if you'd like to join us or if you have any other ideas for walks or hikes in the area both with the children and without! I am relatively new here and eager to expand what I know...

Shigemi - I don't think your other friends were on the list so I haven't copied them in here. Could you forward to them?

I look forward to catching up with you all! Just mail me or text/ whatsapp me on 5249 3756

Jane

Hike 1 - Saturday 24 January - 9.30am - 5km - Gentle - Suitable for families

Hello Hiking families,

Let me get the ball rolling with a super gentle hike. It's suitable for families (not strollers) and - conveniently for me - goes right from my doorstep!

For the next hikes, it's up to you!

Hike leader: Rebecca Merrett - 9220 0851 - rebecca.merrett@nais.hk

Starting location: Wellcome Supermarket, Marina Cove, Hirams Highway, Sai Kung
End location: Same as the start
Date: Saturday 24 January
Time: Can we meet at 9.30am in the carpark outside Wellcome.
Distance: 5.5km
Level: Suitable for families and dogs, but not strollers.
Description: A really easy walk up the Ho Chung valley towards the Wilson Trail. Keener hikers can peel off onto the Wilson Trail or up onto the Maclehose Trail (section 4).

Getting here: There is easy parking for cars, or drop-offs for taxis in the car park outside the Marina Cove car park. The 1A minibus goes from Choi Hung MTR to Sai Kung. The 101M goes from Hang Hau MTR to Sai Kung. On both mini-buses, please remember to jump off at the stop outside Marina Cove.

For all hikes, it would be really useful if you email or text (I'm on whatsapp) the Hike Leader in advance, or you can comment on this blog post (below).

We will wait at the starting location until 9.40am and then we're off! Call if you have any questions.

For non-Sai Kung families, if you want to make a day of it, its very easy to go into Sai Kung after this walk for lunch and a look around.

Welcome to our NAIS Hiking Group

Dear Hikers,

Thank you for expressing an interest in hiking with other mums, dads and families from NAIS.

I anticipate two kinds of hikes:

- Week-day hikes without children

- Weekend hikes, with or without children

I'd like to invite you to let me know if you are planning a hike and I will then immediately share the details on this blog and email members to let them know that a new hike has been added.

Please include: your contact details, date, start time, length of hike, location and, most importantly, fitness level required!

Please email me with as much detail as possible at: rebecca.merrett@nais.hk

Parents can then independently contact the hike organiser to get involved.

As a keen hiker myself, I'm very excited about meeting up with some new masochists.

Many thanks

Rebecca
